Two special cast iron cannons approximately four centuries old ( the oldest of the pair was dated around 1590 AD) were discovered during site surveys that check for potential obstacles and Unexploded Ordnance (UXOs).
Remarkable details that were still present, such as the cannon ball inside the barrel appeared. Both cannons were recovered using specialist equipment and then placed in a salt bath for six months as part of their restoration.
